How Does it Work?
Now with a cutting edge technology, the fingerprints are digitally scanned with state-of-the-art fingerprint scanner at a capture station. The scanned fingerprints along with the application information are transmitted, via a secure link, to the RCMP’s Real Time Identification (RTID) system.Worldwide Forensic Services Inc. is accredited and certified by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to capture and submit fingerprints for criminal background checks. As compared to inked fingerprints submitted by mail or courier, the electronic submission of fingerprints has reduced the turnaround time from 2,3 months to 72 hours*.
After comparing submitted fingerprints with the criminal record database, the RCMP issues a certificate to the applicant or an authorized third party. If the results are to be sent to the third party, the applicant needs to provide correct address including postal code of the third party and has to give consent by signing a consent form** and also by affixing a fingerprint at the time of scanning of fingerprints. A copy of the digital submission to the RCMP may be purchased by the applicant for a small fee.
* The application is normally processed in this time frame. This time does not include the transit time. Processing time may be longer if prior criminal history/record is discovered.
**The consent form can be downloaded from here.
